“ Cute decorations for Christmas and fantastic drinks. I didn't order food but it smelled amazing and want to go back to try! It was really crowded by the bar and we had to wait ~30 minutes for seats to open up (although we didn't have reservations) on a Saturday night around 7:30pm. Bartender made the best dirty martini ever! ”
“ Last night, I came here for a birthday celebration with my wife and two daughters. I had been before, but it had been a number of years since. First tip, make a reservation. Casa Vega is an institution in Sherman Oaks, and on a Monday night at 6:30pm, a reservation was absolutely necessary. Thankfully, we had one. I heard the hostess tell a walk-in party of 2 that there was a one hour wait minimum. Second, I'll touch on the food. I had a combination plate, which tends to be my go-to at this style of Mexican restaurant. Generally, I get two cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. However, Casa Vega is savvy enough to offer a soy beef option for their tacos, so I got a vegetarian beef taco and a cheese enchilada. High marks for this effort, and it is very much appreciated and unexpected. My wife had an enchilada and a grilled chile relleno and it was startlingly good as well. The kids were pleased with their options too. Regarding the drinks, they were good margaritas. Not the best craft coctails I've ever had, but totally within the realm of an enjoyable drink. I recommend the Cadillac margarita as that one is made with fresh lime juice and a side shot of Gran Marnier to add yourself. Ambiance was awesome. Casa Vega really does do a great job of jazzing the place up for the holiday season. The festive decorations and lights really helped make the occasion feel special. The kids in particular enjoyed the interior of the restaurant, and the cacti outside complete with Christmas lights on them. Service was wonderful too. The host and wait staff strike a fine balance of attentiveness in a busy atmosphere along with not bothering guests too frequently. They clearly bring a lot of experience to the table and we were all very happy with our experience. Finally, the dessert. We opted for the fried ice cream and the flan to share. I gotta say, the flan might be the best I've had. Really, it was surprisingly good and we all agreed it was the winner between the two. We are already talking about bringing others here. Its a real treat, and was a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday with family. ”
“ I'm obsessed with going to Casa Vega during the holidays. They do a great job decorating the restaurant with lots of tinsel so it feels cozy and festive! I love their chicken enchiladas! Highly recommend them. They also do a great job accommodating guests with allergies- we were able to easily find egg free and wheat free dishes! Love this spot and will definitely be back! ”
“ This place never disappoints. We decided to have another last minute datenite on a Friday night and if you come early enough reservations are not essential. I came again around 5:45pm just early enough before the dinner rush. We were sat right away. I have to say the service was the biggest take away this time. Every staff member even the ones that are not assigned to your table are so kind and helpful. We enjoyed what's becoming our regular favorites of the chicken mole, spinach enchiladas, and esquites which is a hot sizzling hot plate of street corn that is pulled off the cob served on a plate in front of you. Our new added favorite is their fresh made guacamole that is made right by your table side. It is mashed, squeezed, flipped, flopped, twirled, and topped with all their yummy ingrediants to make the best guacamole I've ever had. I also love how the lighting is dim to keep the romantic calm mood flowing throughout the rooms. Their ambiance is always lively and full of energy whether you are in the dining area or the bar by the entrance. The bar was overcrowded and bumping by the time we were leaving. A must try! ”
“ Came here because my husband is obsessed with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the food was definitely overhyped but Erik the bartender was so charming, knowledgeable & funny (and lets not forget, he makes AMAZING drinks) that he saved the entire experience. 5 Stars for Erik! ”
“ The vibe was fun, we went on a Friday afternoon but were sat in the back area, I think if we were near the bar it would be a little more lively. The service was good, attentive and quick, everyone was friendly. The Cadillac margaritas were nice, I liked the glassware and garnish they came with. The 4 stars is for the food, it wasn't that great, pretty lack luster for the price. Overall nice experience though. ”
“ Casa Vega is an icon of the valley and a special part of Hollywood history. If you appreciate cinema, it has to tickle you that Tarantino loved Casa Vega enough to feature it in his love letter to Los Angeles, "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood". And they returned the favour by showcasing The Tarantino Margarita! I've looked through the low-star "NOT IMPRESSED" Yelp reviews, and I've heard a personal review from an acquaintance who does not appreciate L.A. culture or history. His thoughts on his lunch here? "Didn't want to pay for drinks. It was okay food, not really worth the price." I rolled my eyes hard when I got that text. Casa Vega is an experience. It's not the place to go if you want your mind blown by amazing Mexican food (that place would be Salsa & Beer #4). But I like all the CV dishes I've tried; I usually get a burrito or chile colorado, and of course, the QT marg. The meats are flavourful; the sauces are zesty. Chips and salsa are plentiful and tasty. You will be served by an unsmiling waiter in traditional dress. It's dark and festive inside. It's a typical L.A. Mexican restaurant, elevated by its special history. If you're a local or a tourist, it's worth a visit. If you're a cinephile, it's a privilege for your ass to be in one of their booths. If you're just looking for cheap eats and nothing could make you care about atmosphere or Hollywood hot spots, just save the breath you'd use to complain and go elsewhere. ”
